  • Load Double Crochet (Ldc)
  • Grab Double Crochet (Gdc)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Grab Chain (Gch)
  • Slip Stitch (slst)
  • Work Beginning Rounds (WBRs) Since the first 2 rounds are the same for all squares, this abbreviation is used every time you need to start a new square. To do this:

Round 1: join yarn to hook with a slip knot. Yo 4 times, make a floating ring. (yo, pull through 2 loops) twice (counts as first dc of this round). Secure the slip knot with a stitch marker and drop it and the extra 2 yarn overs off the hook. 2dc in FR. (ch2, 3dc into FR) 3 times. ch1, sc into first st of round (counts as corner space).

Round 2: Ldc, dc in same corner space, [(dc in next st) 3 times, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next space] 3 times, (dc in next st) 3 times, 2 dc in next space, ch1, slst into next dc (counts as corner space).

  • Load Double Crochet (Ldc) To work the first stitch of round 2, use the slack connecting yarn to make 2 yarn overs, (Yo and pull through 2 loops) twice to complete the dc.
  • Restore Double Crochet (Rdc) To work the first dc of round 3, take first loop off hook, use the slack yarn to make a yarn over, put dropped loop back on hook. (yo and  pull through 2 loops) twice to complete a double crochet.
  • Grab Double Crochet (Gdc) used to connect the next dc to its corresponding one on the previous square: insert hook into the back loop of indicated stitch. Yarn over, insert hook where indicated, yo, pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.

  • Grab Chain (Gch) used to connect the next chain st to its corresponding one on the previous square: insert hook into the back loop of first stitch behind hook, yarn over pull through 2 loops.
