Breakaway Blog Unboxed

I’m Lisa, a lifelong crocheter and rule breaker, and boy, do I have a bazillion ideas.

If you’ve landed here then i assume you are a fellow crocheter who is a little bored with things, and maybe you’re looking for a bit of a challenge to crank up the ol’ crojo.

But since this is my first blog post, let’s get the “about me” bizzo out of the way.

I’ll start with the stuff I hoard (ahem collect):

  • stitch dictionaries and antique lace patterns
  • crochet thread. The really thin stuff. But also…
  • humble dishcloth cotton
  • soft and squishy merino sock wool
  • Miscellaneous.
So what to do I with all these treasures?

Well, I would rather talk about what I don’t do with them.

What i mean is, I spend a lot of time crocheting granny squares, daisies, yo-yos, you name it – all kinds of different motifs. And because of a once-in-a-lifetime eureka moment, I never ever ever ever cut my precious yarn until i am absolutely 100% satisfied with the finished object that sits in front of me.

And when I do have to frog a piece, I get a kick out of watching as each motif, one by one, disintegrates back into one single length of thread, which I can then reuse for another experiment.

What’s the trick?

I’ve spent the last 15 years developing my Breakaway Crochet method, which is based on a simple technique that provides the ability to crochet one motif, and then jump to the next one in a series, without cutting the yarn between each one. Along the way I’ve also adapted a couple of novel ways to automatically join the motifs as you go.

And since what I do is kinda “out there”, I’m also constantly racking my brain to find ways of explaining things that won’t leave you throwing your hook against the wall in utter confusion.

From what I can tell, it seems you all are catching on, but I’m hoping to use this blog and website to fill in any gaps that are not provided in the written patterns and video tutorials.

At this writing I’m still getting a huge backlog of ideas formatted and published, but in the meantime you can check out what’s already been floating around, such as the Introduction to the Breakaway Crochet Method, YouTube tutorials, and my dream come true – the ever-growing Motif Library.

And as I’m getting my act together my ultimate daydream is to publish deeper content that will hopefully spark delicious waves of untapped creativity within you. Gosh I really hope I can live up to that!
