Joined Double Yo-yos (Hexagonal)

Stitches Used (US Terminology)
  • Floating Ring (FR)
  • Grab Double Crochet (Gdc)
  • Grab Double Crochet Increase (GdcInc)
  • Restore Double Crochet (Rdc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Slip Stitch (slst)
  • Work First Round (WFR) Since round 1 is the same for all yo-yos, this abbreviation is used every time you need to start a new yo-yo: yarn over 3 times, make FR, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) twice (counts as a dc). Release middle loop (now referred to as “slack yarn”) from hook. Keeping slack yarn out of the way, work 11 dc into FR,  slst into first dc.
  • Restore Double Crochet (Rdc) To work the first dc of round 2, take first loop off hook, use the slack yarn to make a yarn over, put dropped loop back on hook. Next, (yo and  pull through 2 loops) twice to complete a double crochet.
  • Grab Double Crochet (Gdc) used to connect the next dc to its corresponding one on the previous yo-yo: insert hook into the back loop of the first stitch behind the hook. Yarn over, insert hook where indicated, yo, pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.
  • Grab Double Crochet Increase (GdcInc) used to connect the next dcInc to its corresponding one on the previous yo-yo: work the first st of the dc increase as for a Gdc. The second stitch of the increase starts the same way as the first (insert hook into the back loop of the first st behind the hook), continue by inserting the hook into the same st as the last one, finish as for a Gdc.
  1. Foundation Row: WFR, Rdc, dc in same st, (2dc in next st) 7 times (16 dcs), * breakaway to next yo-yo: WFR, Rdc, Gdc in same st, GdcInc, (2dc in next st) 6 times (16 dcs), repeat from * 1 more time.
  2. Return Row: * (2dc in next st) 4 times, slst around threads between current yo-yo and the next, continue to next yo-yo, repeat from * 2 more times, slst into next st.
  3. Joined Foundation Row: WFR, Rdc, Gdc in same st, GdcInc in next st, (2dc in next st) twice, * breakaway to next yo-yo: WFR, Rdc, (GdcInc in next st) 5 times, (2dc in next st) 2 times, repeat from * 1 more time, breakaway to next yo-yo: WFR, Rdc, Gdc in same st, (GdcInc in next st) 3 times, (2dc in next st) 4 times.
  4. Return Row: * (2dc in next st) 4 times, slst around threads between current yo-yo and the next, continue to next yo-yo, repeat from * 2 more times, (2dc in next st) 2 times.
  5. Joined Foundation Row: WFR, Rdc, Gdc in same st, (2GdcInc in next st) 3 times, (2dc in next st) 2 times, * breakaway to next yo-yo: WFR, Rdc, (GdcInc in next st) 5 times, (2dc in next st) 2 times, repeat from * 1 more time.
  6. Return Row: * (2dc in next st) 4 times, slst around threads between current yo-yo and the next, continue to next yo-yo, repeat from * 2 more times.
  7. Finish Left Edge: (2dc in next st) twice, slst around threads between current yo-yo and the next, continue to next yo-yo, (2dc in next st) 6 times, slst in next st, fasten off yarn.
