Joined Starry Squares

  • Floating Ring (FR)

  • Work First Round (WFR) Since round 1 is the same for all squares, this abbreviation is used every time you need to start a new square: yarn over 3 times, make FR, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) twice (counts as a dc). Release middle loop (now referred to as “slack yarn”) from hook. Keeping slack yarn out of the way, work 11 dc into FR, slst into first dc.
  • Restore Double Crochet (Rdc) To work the first dc of round 2, take first loop off hook, use the slack yarn to make a yarn over, put dropped loop back on hook. (yo and  pull through 2 loops) twice to complete a double crochet.
  1. Foundation Row: WFR, Rdc, (2dc in next st) twice, dc in next st, ch5, [Dc in same st, (2dc in next st) twice, ch5] 2 times, * Breakaway to next square: WFR, Rdc, 2dc in next st, slst in 11th st behind hook, 2dc in next st, dc in next st, ch2, slst in ch5 space behind hook, ch2, [dc in same st, (2dc in next st) twice, ch5] 2 times, repeat from * 2 more times (4 squares started).
  2. Return Row: [dc in same st, (2dc in next st) twice, dc in next st, ch2, slst in next ch5 space, ch2] 3 times, dc in same st, (2dc in next st) twice, ch5.
  3. Joined Foundation Row: WFR, Rdc, 2dc in next st, slst in 11th st behind hook, 2dc in next st, dc in next st, ch2, slst in 11th st behind hook, ch2, dc in same st, (2dc in next st) twice, ch5, [Breakaway to next square: WFR, Rdc, 2dc in next st, slst in 11th st behind hook, 2dc in next st, dc in next st, ch2, slst in 11th st behind hook, ch2, dc in same st, 2dc in next st, slst in 11th st behind hook, 2dc in next st, dc in next st, ch2, slst in the 11th st behind hook, ch2, dc in same st, (2dc in next st) twice, ch5] 3 times.
  4. Return Row: as for step 2.
  5. Repeat step 3, repeat step 2.
  6. Finish Left Edge: [Dc in same st, (2dc in next st) twice, dc in next st, ch2, slst in next ch5 space, ch2] 2 times, slst into next dc, fasten off yarn.
