Joined 2-Round Granny Squares

Stitches Used (US Terminology)
  • Floating Ring (FR)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Granny Cluster (GC) – 3dc where indicated
  • Restore Double Crochet (Rdc)
  • Grab Double Crochet (Gdc)
  • Grab Granny Cluster (GGC)
  • Grab Chain (Gch)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip Stitch (slst)
  • Work First Round (WFR) Since round 1 is the same for all squares, this abbreviation is used every time you need to start a new square: yarn over 3 times, make FR, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) twice (counts as a dc). Release middle loop from hook (now referred to as “slack yarn”). Keeping slack yarn out of the way, finish the first round, working all sts into the FR: 2dc, ch2, (GC, ch2) 2 times, GC, ch1, sc into next dc.
  • Restore Double Crochet (Rdc) To work the first dc of round 2, take first loop off hook, use the slack yarn to make a yarn over, put dropped loop back on hook. Next, (yo and  pull through 2 loops) twice to complete a double crochet.
  • Grab Double Crochet (Gdc) used to connect the next dc to its corresponding one on the previous square: unless otherwise indicated, insert hook into the back loop of next stitch behind hook. Yarn over, insert hook where indicated and pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.
  • Grab Chain (Gch) used to connect the next chain st to its corresponding one on the previous square: insert hook into the back loop of next stitch behind hook, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
  • Grab Granny Cluster (GGC) used to connect a Granny Cluster to its corresponding one n the previous square: work 3 Gdc in the same space.
  1. Foundation Row: WFR, Rdc, 2dc in same space, [Ch1, (GC, ch2, GC) in next space] 2 times, Ch1, GC in next space, * breakaway to next square: WFR, Rdc. Inserting hook in the back loop of the 3rd st behind the hook: Gdc in same space, 1 more Gdc in same space, Gch, GGC in next space, Gch, ch1, GC in same space, Ch1, (GC, ch2, GC) in next space, Ch1, GC in next space, repeat from * 2 more times (4 squares started).
  2. Return Row: Ch2, * GC in same space, ch1, GC in next space, ch1, sc around threads between current square and the next one, ch1, continue to next square, repeat from * 2 more times, GC in next space, ch1, GC in next space.
  3. Joined Foundation Row: WFR, Rdc. Inserting hook in the back loop of the 3rd st behind the hook: Gdc in same space, 1 more Gdc in same space, Gch, GGC in next space, Gch, ch1, GC in same space, Ch1, GC in next space, * breakaway to next square: WFR, Rdc. Inserting hook in the back loop of the 3rd st behind the hook: Gdc in same space, 1 more Gdc in same space, Gch, GGC in next space, Gch, slst into 2nd space behind hook, Gch, GGC in same space as last GGC, Gch, GGC in next space, Gch, ch1, GC in same space, Ch1, GC in next space, repeat from * 2 more times.
  4. as for step 2.
  5. As for step 3.
  6. Finish Left Edge: Ch2, * GC in same space, ch1, GC in next space, ch1, sc around threads between current square and the next one, ch1, continue to next square, repeat from * 1 more time, slst into next dc, fasten off yarn.
